Overview >

Global shipping company web designBridgehead Container Services is one of the longest-standing international container lessors, having been founded in March 1977. The company leases containers for shipping from dozens of ports and docks around the world on short and long term bases. Operating out of its head office in Liverpool’s Cunard Building, it has a global reach, serving new and long-standing customers from the world’s major shipping lines.

The project brief >

Bridgehead had a very old website that was launched in 2006 (!) and required a new one to replace it. The website’s main function was to enable customers to source various sized containers from ports around the world. The website also needed to allow customers to track containers and locate them via their individual identification number.

Secondary purposes of the site were to show visitors what containers were available for leasing and obtain details of the agent active in a specific global port.

The main challenge for this project was to integrate an external database. This database holds all the information of thousands of individual containers at dozens of locations around the world. A key part of the job was to render this database in a user-friendly and logical way so visitors to the website could query this database through a simple and straightforward interface.

The design and basic build of the website was pretty straightforward but needed to have a ‘big’ and ‘global’ feel to it. Large images and bold straplines helped to achieve this.

We created a feed from the container database to collate the raw data. This database could not be fed through to the website in its raw state, so the data was routed through a separate platform that applied a function that then enables the data to be ‘read’ and rendered correctly on the public facing website. Not particularly straightforward!

The outcome >

Global shipping company web design: Once the data became readable, it enabled us to manipulate the data and order it in a logical and user-friendly way so it could be presented as a useable resource for website visitors. The completed website is uncluttered and spacious and is a much improved, and more secure and stable, experience for Bridgehead’s customers.
