Restaurant web design: Spire is a restaurant in south Liverpool and specialise in modern British and European cuisine, Spire promises culinary expertise and awards include North West Restaurant of the Year (The Good Food Guide) and Food Hero Award for chef owner Matt Locke (Metro Food and Drink Awards).
Adam and Matt at Spire have been our clients since 2013 when we redeveloped their existing website. In the years in between, website fashions have changed considerably as have device technology so we recently suggested to Adam that the site should be redone to bring it up-to-date in terms of appearance and functionality.
While the site has no major elements of functionality, we had to ensure that the design properly reflected the standard of the restaurant. As a high-end restaurant, we needed the website to be equally high-end. In addition, menus change pretty regularly so we needed to make sure that the back end was straightforward and quick for Adam to update – he’s a busy man!
The vast majority of users visit Spire’s website on smartphones, so this was our starting point for design. Spire provided us with plenty of high-quality imagery of the food on the menu so it made sense for us to let the pictures do the talking. Using quite a dark and muted colour palette enabled to images to really shine through – almost like a portfolio. Use of video put the cherry on the cake.
There was no need for a huge amount of written content as the bulk of this was menus and how to make a reservation.
Restaurant web design: It turned out lovely – another favourite due to its effectiveness for users and its simplicity. The backend is much easier for Adam to use and update the menus (a lot has changed since 2013!). The user interface is a huge improvement on the old site and the stripped back content means it’s much easier for customers to make enquiries about a booking.
